I'm in a Hurry To Get Things Done

It feels like the list just keeps getting longer.

When you are a caregiver no matter what you do your list is going to grow and eventually take over and drown you alive.

You are no longer just keeping one household going. You are now keeping two running. Or not.

Appointments to be had. Repairs to be done. Calls to be made. Shopping and groceries to be bought. Bills to be paid. Target runs. And never done.

I've found myself in budget meeting trying to figure out if I bought toilet paper for Momma's house or mine. The more Excel spreadsheets that were thrown up the more I wondered and worried. It got so bad I stole a roll from the office because it was all I could think about and i didn't want to go back to the store again.

I've forgotten to pay my mortgage while paying Lil Bit's lake house mortgage twice.

All I can think about is getting it done. Check the boxes. Cross off the list. Because there is never enough time.

Pre-pandemic I never wanted to take Lil Bit with me to run errands because what would take me fifteen minutes would take two hours with her with me. This continued for a bit until The Angel reminded me what really mattered.

"You know your Mom just loves going to stores with you. She loves seeing all the stuff that is new; checking it out - being with you."

Remember this my dear caregivers. You may be in a hurry. You may want to just get things done. But for your loved one?

It's about slowing the hands of the clock down. It's spending time with you. Because they know that that time is limited.

So let the errands take longer. Let them gab with old friends in the aisles. Give them parts of the grocery list to pick up on the motorized scooter while backing into and destroying the beer display at Aldi. Get to know your Amazon delivery folks on a first name basis. They love to help pick up the slack.

Because the list will always be there, but your loved one won't.

And don't worry...No embezzlement of toilet paper here. I had a case shipped to work. Amazon. Next Day Delivery.
